Our school offers classes in traditional Wado-Ryu karate. Classes are taught on Monday and Thursday evenings at the Lewisburg Recreation Center for beginners, intermediate students, and advanced students.  Some classes are also scheduled on Saturday mornings.  We take ages 7 to 99!

 Mr. Monroe Carter is a seventh-degree black belt and a member of the U.S. Eastern Wado-Ryu Federation Board of Directors. Due to many years of membership in the International Federation of Wado-Ryu Renmei, students in our school often have the opportunity to work out under noted international leaders in karate. Our school has been operating year-round in Lewisburg for over 40 years!

 The study of karate, a martial art whose name means “empty hand”, will teach you or your children to defend yourself against an attacker.  Karate is an excellent form of exercise, which has additional benefits such as teaching self-confidence and discipline, and helping to develop coordination, flexibility, and strength.  Because beginners initially are not able to do all the exercises practiced during the class and have to work up to an advanced level gradually, this is an ideal way for people of all ages to get in shape.  You do not need to “wait until you are in shape” to take karate, because it will raise your fitness level gradually.  This is done through warm ups, performing basic techniques, kata or forms, and, eventually, fighting.  Beginners do not initially fight, and are first taught to fight by black belts only.  All fighting is carefully monitored by black belts, and teachers do not try to intimidate students.
